William D. Bates, also known as Denton Bates is an American civil engineer with specialties’ in several practice areas. He is currently the President and managing Principal of Bates Engineers, and Bates Engineering International(BEI).
After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering he joined the surveying and engineering firm of Michael Baker, Jr., Inc.(Baker) where he obtained a wide variety of civil engineering experience and was responsible for the southern division’s newly expanding field of environmental engineering. During his tenure at Baker, he was responsible for RCRA compliance projects performed for Ingalls Shipyard’s east bank and west bank shipbuilding operations in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Bates expertise while at Baker also extends to a wide variety of civil design projects including bridge structures; municipal water systems, and underground storage tank remediation and testing projects. Following Baker, Bates joined First Environment, Inc. of New Jersey’s environmental engineering group’s California office in Irvine where he was involved in performing environment audits and site assessments in the United States as well as in Mexico.
